Quiet luxury is really having its moment right now. People are tired of the more gaudy, ostentatious and flashy look that is often faked and are leaning into the discreet look.
What is luxury.?
To some it is being able to show off your wealth, wearing logos, having items that are very obviously designer brands ie covered in logos or styles that are so well known that others can't miss them. It might look a little like you want everyone to notice that you have an expensive item. Often the items will be a trend too. Examples of brands that lean more to the obvious luxury vibe would be Gucci or even Louis Vuitton .They tend to have a lot of logos and are more obvious. They are also more likely to be faked.
To others it is finding items that are really good quality, that are not covered in logos. The luxury comes from the quality and beauty of the item. A lot of people likely wouldn't even know you were wearing something expensive, they would just know it looks good. It is very much a look that "if you know you know" so most won't realise you are wearing luxury, only those that know will spot it. Some brands that embody this vibe might be The Row or Loro Piana. These brands don't generally have an obvious logo, they are focussed on quality and style.
I personally prefer the quiet luxury. Have I or do I own some less quiet items, yes I do. But in the main I prefer the discreet look. I find it tends to fit my aesthetic more, the quiet luxury look generally is more elegant and timeless while the more obvious lux look can often be a trend piece and will likely date faster too.
In this example we have a Gucci suit and a Reiss suit. The Gucci suit is in the 1000's while the Reiss one is a few hundred. Personally I think the Reiss suit looks much better, more elegant, I don't think you would know it was high street, it could be The Row. That Gucci suit isn't going to be a long lasting item as it's such a statement you can't realistically wear it often without everyone noticing.
