When you first start buying luxury items there is a tendency to want everything you see. I mean I saw so many items and wanted them all but realistically I can't possibly buy them all.
I do think a few choice pieces can really elevate your outfit but if you just try and buy everything you see you will a) go broke and b) have so many random pieces it will be a mess. You want it to be cohesive.
I personally recommend getting a few pieces that work well with your wardrobe. That won't be the same for everyone. You need to think about what goes well with your own wardrobe. That way you hopefully won't make expensive mistakes. Let's not forget these items are very expensive. But just a few things can make a big difference.
I was pretty selective when I started investing in pieces so there is only one item that I don't really wear now.
So what would I suggest for your capsule luxury accessory collection.?
1 - A belt - I bought a Gucci one first and I do wear it quite a bit but now that I have an Hermes one I wear that a lot more so wish I bought that first.
2 - A good watch. I saved for a long time to get my Cartier but it is an absolute classic, it looks so beautiful, I wear it a lot, every time I look at it I smile and it goes with everything.
3 - A silk scarf - You can wear them either round your neck in 100 different ways or round your wrist, you can tie them to your bag, if they are big enough you can wear as a top, the options are endless. I bought a small Hermes one and have worn it round my neck, wrist, tied to bags etc.
4 - A bag- which one depends on your lifestyle. I bought the Louis Vuitton Speedy in Damier Abene. It goes with every thing, fits a ton but is small enough to take to a restaurant etc and I can use it pretty much every day. It is also hard wearing and durable, not all bags are. Some need to be really babied and I don't want to have to worry that much. I also didn't want a luxury bag I could only wear on a night out. If you go out a few times a week then that may work but if not then think more day time.
5 - A piece of jewellery that can be worn with a lot. We all know that designer costume jewellery is not cheap and isn't really the best value but it does lift your look. Go for something classic, that you love and that will go with as much of your wardrobe as possible so you get a lot of use out of it. I bought a Chanel brooch and have certainly got my cost per wear down as I wear it a lot. You might want a bracelet or a ring.
All these items apart from the watch are relatively (for designer) affordable. They can all be worn daily and if you buy wisely get a lot of use out of them.
Do consider pre loved. That will save you a lot of money, I buy almost all my designer items preloved now. I love the Hermes Clic H bangle but they are nearly £600, preloved they can be found for less than half that. So it is worth a look.
