How long does my workout need to be.?

There is no one size fits all answer for this. A lot of factors will affect this and not everyone will have the same goals either. If you are training to run a marathon or entering a body building competition you will need a lot more time in training than the average person.

However if you are the average person looking to get fitter and in shape and possibly lose some weight then you don't need to spend hours in the gym.

I train 6 days a week but I do around 40 mins, sometimes less. You can smash out a good session quickly if you get on with it. Watch a lot of gym goers and a lot of the time they are sat around looking at their phones or chatting. Cut that out and you will save time. I have done the lunch time workouts and could get a good session in and be back to work in less than an hour so don't think that if you only have your lunch break you can't do it. You can.

You can split the cardio and weights into different days if that's easier for you. Do it at lunch, before work, after work, whatever works for your day best.

Keep in mind the machines are a bit quicker to set up than say a squat rack so if you are short on time you can plan a machine session. There is nothing wrong with the fixed weight machines, you can jump on, switch the weight to what you want and get on with it. Plan your sessions to take into account the time you have. Super set your sets so you get more in in less time.

Do that every day and you can get a good session in every day if you want to. It doesn't need to take hours. So don't use that as a reason not to hit the gym.
