Getting over your fitness obstacles. !

We all have them. The "reason" we can't make it to the gym. But if you want to reach your goals you will need to find a way to overcome them, at least most of the time.

One of the biggest ones I hear is "I don't have time"

But you almost certainly do. Yes you are busy but we all have 24 hours in a day and we, for the most part, decide how we use it. I know there are some of you that work insanely long shifts and have really tough jobs but most people can fit it in. We have a member that has 2 small children, a full time job and is working on his masters but he still makes it 5 days a week.

"I'm too tired" is another one. I promise you that if you can drag yourself in the door and get started you will get a boost and get the workout done. You will feel a lot better about that than if you skip it completely. We never regret the workout we do but we do regret the workout we miss.

"It's too busy" This can certainly be the case at peak times. But try and get there before work or after 6.30pm when it has calmed down a bit. If you work from home as a lot of my clients now do then you can use your lunch break, most employers are now quite good about the time you take so you can try 11am or 2pm instead of 12pm or 1pm if lunch time is a busy one.

"I feel self conscious" I promise you everyone has felt like this at some point. No one is looking at you, they are all too busy working on themselves. Once you have been in a few times you will feel a lot more comfortable. Take advantage of any inductions that your gym offer so that you can be shown how to use the equipment, and consider booking a couple of sessions with a Personal Trainer so they can spend time with you and help you relax.

"It will take me too long to reach my goals" Nothing worth doing is done quickly. Slow and steady wins the race. Try not to think of the end goal, but break it down into smaller goals. So say you want to lose 10kg, focus on 1kg first, then once you have done that focus on the 2nd kilo. Before you know it you will be half way there.

It's one hour, maybe less of your day. Have a home workout plan if possible so you don't need to leave the house on days when it is really hard. I did that when my son was small, I had workout dvd's etc at home. That way I never needed to skip a session.

So don't make all the usual excuses. Just do it. I promise you will be glad you did.
