The age old question. I get asked this so many times.
Now of course we are all individuals and different things suit different people. But, for the most part, if you are looking to lose weight and create a nice shape then weights/resistance is the workout you want to focus on.
I am not suggesting you skip cardio completely, it has many benefits for your health and it will contribute to your journey but I would stick to HIIT training and not just long endless cardio.
We all lose muscle as we age and this is a huge contributing factor to gaining weight. We have all heard about the "middle aged spread" etc but it isn't just because you are older. It is a lot to do with losing muscle as we age and the less muscle you have the less calories you burn. So technically it is because you are older but if you kept your muscle mass up then it wouldn't be as bad.
Women especially will say to me they are worried they will get huge, but you won't. We aren't built that way. I lift heavy weights but I am not a big person by any means. There are men in my gym lifting really heavy and they still aren't big. It takes a LOT of effort to actually get huge so don't let that put you off. Most people wouldn't put the amount of work in they would need to get that big.
If you just do cardio you might be a slightly smaller version of you but you won't have any real shape or definition. Weights can provide that. If you aren't sure what to do get a trainer to show you.
